May 2024. For the second year, the REMEMBR-HOUSE project returned as the protagonist of the Turin Book Fair, among the most important cultural events in Italy, which this year was attended by more than 220,000 visitors and nearly 30,000 teachers and students.
The first appointment was with psychologist, psychotherapist and Morenian psychodramatist Caterina Di Chio, who held the “Houses of Memory” workshop on the afternoon of May 9 to high school students Istituto Tecnico Economico Heinrich Kunter – Bolzano A moment of discussion on the personal concept of Home and its meanings filtered through personal experiences: where do I feel comfortable? How important is my hometown? What does my teenage room look like and how does it reflect my personality and passions? The many questions discussed and shared while sitting in a circle allowed the teens to think about the importance of their own personal space, the keeper of secrets and dreams Workshops, this time aimed at younger children, were also held on Sunday, May 12, with the activity “Treasures of Home” curated by Federica Pezzoli of the National Museum of Italian Judaism and the Shoah.
On May 9, the Book Fair was an opportunity to host the winning projects of the international contest “REMEMBR-HOUSE, House of Memory” in which 17 schools from all over Italy and Latvia participated.
Introducing the first and second runners-up was a lectio by historian and popularizer Carlo Greppi, who served as a juror in the contest. After greetings from MEIS President Dario Disegni and 1563 Foundation for Art and Culture Secretary General Laura FornaraGreppi reflected on “Sources, Traces, Clues. How we tell history and why”: an in-depth discussion that was able to convey the active value of History and its ability to act on the present to improve it and protect everyone’s rights. A touching moment in which the fates of the millions of people who are seemingly forgotten in school textbooks but suffer the consequences of History with a capital S were also remembered.
To conclude the afternoon, students from IIS “G. Soleri- A. Bertoni” of Saluzzo and Liceo Scientifico “A. Gallotta” of Eboli, winners of the first and second place of the contest who presented their projects of Houses of Memory recounting with emotion, competence and enthusiasm the work done in class and their commitment as young citizens engaged in building a future of equality and respect. Next appointment for the opening of the traveling exhibition that will tell the results of the contest!
